Country Home Extension
A Contemporary Addition to a Traditional Rural Home
A warm, contemporary extension that enhances family living while preserving the charm and character of a traditional country house.
Set within a mature landscape, this project transforms an existing rural home into a light-filled, connected series of spaces that open directly onto the garden. The design introduces a calm material palette of natural timber, textured masonry and generous glazing, bringing softness and warmth to the original structure while strengthening the home’s relationship with its surroundings.
At ground level, the new extension creates a seamless flow between kitchen, dining and living areas, framing long views of the garden and allowing daylight to filter deep into the plan. Upstairs, the remodel introduces better proportions, improved circulation and a more coherent arrangement of bedrooms.
Throughout the project, the architectural language is carefully balanced: contemporary in detailing yet respectful of countryside character. High-performance materials and a fabric-first approach ensure energy efficiency, comfort and long-term sustainability — essential considerations for modern rural living.
This extension is an example of how sensitive design can revitalise an older home, enriching everyday life while staying grounded in its landscape and heritage.
