Frame House: Sustainable New Build Home in a London Conservation Area
Frame House is a contemporary new build home designed by Studio AVC. Located in a historic conservation area in South-West London, the project combines sustainable design with heritage sensitivity. As a result, Frame House achieves a balance between modern living and the charm of its Victorian context.
Sustainable New Build Design with Heritage Sensitivity
Frame House celebrates both modern craftsmanship and heritage context. It uses handmade moulded bricks and natural timber to reflect the materials of surrounding period homes. Meanwhile, its angled façade and large glazed openings create a light-filled, contemporary look.
Moreover, this thoughtful balance of traditional and modern materials allows the home to sit comfortably within its historic surroundings. The design demonstrates how new build architecture can complement conservation areas rather than compete with them.
Energy-Efficient Construction for a Modern New Build
Energy efficiency is at the heart of this London new build. The home features a high-performance insulated structure, an efficient heating system, and a Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) unit. Together, these elements reduce heat loss and improve indoor air quality.
In addition, solar glazing and rooflights were placed after detailed daylight and thermal studies. As a result, the home gains solar warmth in winter while avoiding overheating in summer.
Furthermore, a biodiverse green roof enhances insulation, supports local wildlife, and strengthens the home’s connection to nature.

Eco-Friendly Materials and Low-Carbon Living
Frame House uses natural, locally sourced materials to reduce its carbon footprint. For example, zinc detailing and timber cladding are both durable and recyclable. Moreover, low-impact materials extend the building’s life span and reduce maintenance needs.
In combination, these sustainable choices promote a low-carbon lifestyle, helping residents live more efficiently and comfortably.
New Build Architecture in a Conservation Area
Designing a new build within a conservation area brings unique challenges. Therefore, every decision — from the size of openings to the tone of materials — was made with care and respect for the surrounding streetscape.
At the same time, the home provides open spaces, natural light, and modern comfort. Consequently, Frame House enhances the local character without imitating it, adding a subtle yet confident contemporary layer to the neighbourhood.
A Contemporary New Build that Frames Light and Life
Ultimately, Frame House reflects Studio AVC’s vision for modern new builds — homes that are innovative, efficient, and in harmony with their setting. By framing light, views, and everyday life, it creates a warm and timeless home for the future.
